Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Fifth Edition Character Sheet at 5echarsheet.com (the "Site") handles information. The Site is a free, browser-based tool for building and storing tabletop character sheets. It is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.

The short version

• The Site has no server and no user accounts. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal information on our systems.
• Your character data stays on your own device, in your browser's local storage and in any character files you choose to save or export (.json).
• The only third party that may collect data through the Site is our advertising provider (Google AdSense), which uses cookies as described below.

Information stored on your device

The Site saves data locally in your web browser so your work persists between visits. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to us:

• Character data (your sheets, choices, and notes) -- stored in your browser's localStorage.
• Reference data cache (game rules data you look up) -- stored in your browser's IndexedDB for faster, offline-capable access.
• Preferences (such as theme and content-source filters) -- stored in localStorage; ad-dismissal state is stored in sessionStorage for the current session only.

You can erase all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this Site (see "Your choices" below). Doing so deletes your saved characters, so export anything you want to keep first.

Reference game data

Game rules content is bundled with the Site. If a looked-up item is not in the bundle, your browser may request it directly from the Open5e API (api.open5e.com). Such a request is made by your browser to Open5e and is subject to Open5e's own practices; we do not receive or log it.

Advertising and cookies

The Site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. To show ads, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies on your device. These may be used to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu (EU/UK).

The Site does not use pop-up or pop-up-on-load ads. We do not currently use separate analytics tracking; if that changes, this policy will be updated.

Consent (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before non-essential (advertising) cookies are set, through a consent message provided by our advertising partner. You may change or withdraw your consent at any time via that consent control.

Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, gives you rights regarding your personal information, including the right to know, to delete, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. The use of advertising cookies described above may be considered "sharing" under that law.

To opt out, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control provided through our advertising partner's consent tool, or set the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, which we honor where required.

Children's privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Data retention and deletion

Because the Site stores data only in your browser, you control retention entirely. To delete it, clear this Site's data in your browser settings, or use your browser's "clear site data" / "cookies and site data" controls.

Your choices

• Delete your data: clear this Site's storage in your browser (Settings → Privacy / Site data).
• Opt out of personalized ads: use the links in the "Advertising and cookies" section, or your region's consent control.
• Block cookies: configure your browser to block or limit cookies (some ads may then be non-personalized).

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
